How to Insert a Page Into a PDF

Sometimes a PDF is almost right, but it's missing something: a cover sheet, a signed form, or a blank page you need to write on later. Learning how to insert a page into a PDF lets you add that content exactly where it belongs without rebuilding the whole document. This guide covers adding a blank page, dropping in a page from another file, and getting everything in the correct order.

What "inserting a page" actually means

A PDF is just an ordered list of pages. Inserting a page means putting new content β€” either an empty page or one pulled from a second PDF β€” into that list at a specific position, then shifting the pages after it down by one. There's no re-typing and no conversion involved; you're rearranging and combining page objects, which keeps the original text, fonts, and quality intact.

Because of that, the most reliable way to insert a page is to work with whole PDFs and merge them in the order you want. Tools that do this in your browser process the file locally and never upload it to a server, so a private contract or medical form stays on your own machine.

Insert a page from another PDF

If the page you want already exists somewhere β€” a scanned signature page, an invoice, a terms sheet β€” the cleanest approach is to combine files and arrange them.

  1. Open the merge PDF tool and add your main document.
  2. Add the second PDF (or a single-page PDF containing just the page you want to insert).
  3. Drag the files into the order that puts the new page where it should go. If the new page needs to land in the middle, you may first need to split your main document.
  4. Confirm the sequence in the preview, then download the combined PDF.

Everything happens in the browser, so nothing leaves your device during the process.

Inserting into the middle of a document

Merging joins files end to end, so to drop a page between, say, pages 4 and 5, split first. Use the split PDF tool to break your document into a "pages 1–4" file and a "pages 5–end" file. Then merge three items in order: the first part, your insert page, and the second part. It sounds fiddly, but it takes under a minute and gives you exact control over placement.

Add a blank page

A blank page is useful for double-sided printing, adding handwritten notes later, or leaving room for a section you'll fill in.

There are two easy ways to do it:

  • Make a one-page blank PDF and merge it in. Create a blank page β€” for example by converting a plain white JPG to PDF β€” then use the merge steps above to place it where you need it.
  • Use the editor. Open the full editor to add and rearrange pages visually, then export when the layout looks right.

Once the blank page is in place, you can type on it with the add text tool or draw and mark it up with the annotate tool.

Reorder pages after inserting

Inserting and reordering go hand in hand. If a page lands in the wrong spot, you don't have to start over.

  • To move or reshuffle pages, open the document in the editor and drag the thumbnails into the order you want.
  • To remove a page you no longer need, use the delete pages tool.
  • If an inserted page is sideways β€” common with scans β€” straighten it with the rotate PDF tool.

Preview the full sequence before you export so you catch any out-of-place pages while they're still easy to fix.

Tips for a clean result

  • Match the page size. If your insert page is a different size (for example, a photo turned into a PDF), it will look mismatched next to letter-size pages. The resize PDF tool can bring pages to a consistent dimension.
  • Keep a copy of the original. Save your source files until you've confirmed the new document is correct, so you can redo a step if needed.
  • Name the output clearly. A filename like contract-with-signature-page.pdf saves confusion later.

The short version

To insert a page into a PDF, decide what you're adding β€” a blank page or a page from another file β€” and where it goes. For a page at the start or end, merge the PDFs in order. For a page in the middle, split first, then merge the three parts around your insert. Reorder and clean up in the editor, and because it all runs in your browser, your documents never get uploaded anywhere.
